Just because someone works in a clinic or hospital, doesn’t mean they are the picture of health, themselves. There are steps to take in order to stay healthy enough to take care of others.

In many careers in nursing, there are double shifts and long, hard hours that can take a toll on health, especially if the nurse doesn’t take the advice she dispenses. Also, nurses generally work around people that are sick and many of those illnesses are contagious.

Work to keep the body healthy. Seek the help of a good, balanced diet and plenty of exercise. Nurses get a lot of walking done, but it doesn’t really strengthen the heart muscle if it doesn’t raise the heart rate.

Keep Healthy, Even at Work

A good idea is for a nurse to use the stairs when going to other floors of the building (or on their 15 minute break). Running the stairs is one good way to raise the heartbeat, but just walking up them without resting will do the trick, especially if it’s done several times a day.

A well balanced diet is also necessary. A healthcare worker must be sure their body gets the nourishment it needs to handle the long hours and to care for other people. It’s important for all bodies to receive carbs for energy and protein for necessary body function and growth. If eating out of the vending machine is somehow necessary, be sure to choose things that deliver both carbs and protein, like a turkey sandwich on whole grain bread. Fresh fruits and veggies are an important part of everyone’s diet, and they come in vending machines, too. Outside help, in the form of food and exercise, is just the ticket.

Pain is common. Bodies strain beneath the weight of daily demands — bones crack; skin tears; muscles eventually lose their strength. The potential for complications is immense.

Understanding how to respond to these complications becomes vital, with three suggestions to remember:

Address the Cause

All injuries — whether centered in muscles, bones or ligaments — stem from specific causes. They all follow progressive patterns, ending in eventual pain. Recognizing the source of that pain is therefore essential. Understanding problems, instead of merely treating the aftermath, is necessary. Leaving them unaddressed allows them to possibly return.

Seek Therapy

Denial is common in the world of injuries. Individuals consider themselves immune to the standards of healing and believe they can somehow overcome issues without support. This is a mistake — and potentially a damning one. Seeking help is vital when dealing with health concerns. Physicians, chiropractors, acupuncturists, physical therapists and more should be considered. Determining the severity of the problem enables patients to understand how much aid they truly need.

Consider Legal Options

Injuries demand more than mere healing. They instead steal time, wages and stability — forcing individuals to ignore their routines, trapping them in the requirements of hospitals. When these problems occur due to outside forces (such as employer negligence, construction failure, car collisions and more), legal avenues may need to be pursued. Choosing a Chicago truck accident attorney or similar professional is often necessary. This provides financial and emotional compensation when it’s warranted.

Expecting pain is wise. Remembering these suggestions is essential, however.

It’s easy to get lost in the abyss of eating and drinking when you first start dating someone new. The social setting is easy, and good food and good wine can make for great conversation, but what else is there?

More and more people are looking for activities they can do with their partner, and for those who are gay dating, exercising can be a great alternative to eating, drinking and going out.

Meeting Someone New

When you first meet someone new, finding something to do can be a challenge. However, if you are both into health and fitness, why not try something fun to keep you fit and help the relationship?

In many cities you can now rent bikes and go for a ride around the city. There are also a host of dancing classes to try: salsa, flamenco or even ballroom. Indoor rock climbing can be a great choice, too; everyone looks awkward in one of those harnesses!

If you are health-conscious and looking for a truly unique first date advice, why not try a walk in a park? If your new friend is a bit of a tech geek and you enjoy keeping active, try geocaching; it combines both passions in one, and it can make for some great conversation.

Like all first dates, the main thing to remember is to have fun. If you are heading out for an active date, try not to let your competitive edge get the better of you; stop and enjoy the company of the new person in your life!

Buying a treadmill will give you the boost you need to improve your health and reduce pain. The goal is to relieve the tension in your body after sitting at a desk all day, develop a fitness routine, and gain the proper body mass index (BMI). Before plunking down your cash, know how to pick the right treadmill for you.

Accessibility. Choose a treadmill that’s easy to access and start up each day. While some people might like a low-tech model that folds up for easy storage, having to drag it out and set it up every day may be enough to discourage you from sticking to your workout routine. It will be nice to easily set it up in front of your direct.tv too, so you can enjoy your workouts more.

Variety. If you do the exact same activity every day, you’re going to get bored and will be less likely to continue with that activity. So choose a treadmill that lets you inject some variety into your routine. Some treadmills offer different pre-programmed options that integrate hills and a variety of speeds. You might even consider a model that lets you customize your routines. Treadmill reviews can help you choose options. To access reviews, click here.

Motivation. There are treadmills that let you walk, jog, or run with a virtual buddy to keep you accountable. You’ll be less likely to quit mid-workout.

Distractions. If you enjoy doing other activities while working out, pick a treadmill with a book/magazine holder. Some models come with a small TV or radio built into the console.

Choosing a treadmill that meets your needs means you’re more likely to do your daily workout. This will improve your health.

Health in one of the most important things in our lives, which we often tend to forget and don’t give any importance in our daily life. Every person in this world wants his health to be great and to always stay healthy amongst the highly competitive environment her. Usually people enjoyed admirable health in the days before cars, processed foods and computers spoilt people. The reasons behind this are many things and some of the main things are pollution, adulteration and immunization power.

Pollution levels these days are very high compared to that of the yester years. This is because man has developed many ways to fulfill the desires in his life. While doing so he has ignored the other aspects as to how it will hamper the life of people after him. As the demand for things grew and so did the manufacturing of goods and this led to heavy pollution in water, ground and air.
Everyone inhaling this air often grew sick and in order to get themselves healed quickly they opted for stronger medicines and once this process kept on repeating the immunization power of the body started reducing as man never let the body to fight back against these types of diseases, thus making him prone to diseases. In the present day almost all of the food which we get is unhealthy chemicals; either artificially made through hybrid methods or are filled with insecticide. This is an indirect type of adulteration which affects the body as it doesn’t supplements all the nutritional requirements of the body.

There has always been a debate over the efficacy of the two disciplines of medicine. Should I resort to homeopathy, which is said to get to the root of the problem? Or do I choose conventional, which gives me instant relief and results?

Homeopathy is based on some core principles. A homeopathic practitioner follows a methodology of finding the root problem before giving the diagnosis. Homeopathy is not concerned with immediate results. It aims to achieve long-lasting or permanent results.

Conventional medicine is not based on any principles. It does not rest on any philosophies. It relies on lab tests, and efficacy.
Homeopathy concentrates on curing the person safely. It is very cognizant about the side effects of any chemical. That is why homeopathy uses natural herbs to make medicines. Homeopathic medicine will not invade and alter your system like how conventional medicine does. It does so slowly. It gets the body to accept it, and makes the body change its core constituents gradually over a period of time.

Unlike conventional medicine, homeopathic medicine is cost-effective. People who take homeopathic medicines achieve permanent results. While people taking conventional medicine only have temporary results.

Conventional medicine seeks to suppress symptoms to give relief to the patient. This is actually not a good thing to do. The body should be allowed to condition itself to any illness and develop immunity to it.

Homeopathy concentrates on this area. It builds the body’s immunity by giving the body core constituents to raise its immunity. When conventional medicine suppresses symptoms, it is actually making the body depend on the medicine more.

Those who have faced injuries in the past have reported that the rehabilitation process is one of the most frustrating experiences of their lives. However, no matter how frustrating rehabilitation can be, it plays an important part in helping people recover from their injury.

If you were recently injured and are about to enter rehabilitation for your injury, there are a few things you can do to make your experience less frustrating.

Find Positive and Helpful Rehabilitation Services

There are hundreds of different injury rehabilitation services available once you are injured. With so many services available, it can be hard to find one that works well with you.

Try to find a service that offers a positive attitude to your rehabilitation and seems to want to help you get better. You can find services that have these characteristics by interviewing workers at the rehab center, reading reviews of their service or by asking a Los Angeles California personal injury attorney for a recommendation.

Educate Yourself on Your Rehab

A lot of the frustration that comes from rehabilitation is because the patient is not properly educated on what is happening. This can lead to frustration because you expect the rehab to be quicker than it really is. Try to educate yourself on your rehab by researching expected rehab time and what will happen during your rehabilitation. This will help decrease any frustration you might experience during your injury rehabilitation.

Frustration is an emotion that can be expected when going through an injury rehabilitation. By following these steps you can hopefully decrease your frustration levels and concentrate on overcoming your injury.

There are many different kinds of detox diets, but the premise is the same: you should rid your body of toxins by cleansing. Most Detox regimens tend to promise fast, easy weight loss. After a detox diet, they claim, you’ll feel more energetic and lighter. Some experts are skeptical of the fad.

Detox diets may involve fasting, taking laxatives, or consuming only liquid. These diets can be difficult on the body! Critics say that such diets are based on false science, and can be harmful for your health.

Other detox diets, though, involve consuming fruits and vegetables. Some even include special foods for your liver and colon, while excluding caffeine, alcohol, glutens, sugars, and dairy, which are hard to digest. This kind of diet is much less strict than pure fasting, and has more credibility.

So, then, is fasting good for you or not? When the body is denied glucose to function for more than about four hours, the body will get it elsewhere: first in the liver, and then in muscles. Caloric restriction has been shown to have a positive impact on health, but fasting hasn’t been studied as carefully. Mice who fasted every other day has increased stress resistance and lived longer. Humans who fast have been shown to lose weight, but the long-term effects are not as clear. Still, fasting has been shown to decrease LDL cholesterol.

Fasting may be risky, though, especially for someone who suffers from anorexia. If you’re considering a detox diet, be sure you carefully research the risks and side effects. Also, remember that not all detox diets are created equally, so choose carefully.

Eat smart while frequenting popular restaurants. Don’t say you don’t eat there, because most of us do in a pinch. Everyone is busy, tired and running-on-empty. Overworked, we overlook the most important thing for ourselves and our families – proper nutrition in regard to our overall health and healthy living.

Obesity is a major contributor to disease and death, as we all know. Exercise regularly and faithfully take your vitamins.

Shop smarter, and purchase fresh, organic produce on a regular basis. The more processed any food is, the worse it is for you. No one’s body requires extra chemicals, fats, sodium and sugar. The more a food product is altered and refined, the higher in saturated fat and sodium it is likely to be. Never over-indulge when dining out, and go easy on sauces, dressings, gravies, extra cheese and cream. Monitor your meat and bread intake, and do not “super-size” any of your meals. Rely on a “doggie bag” whenever possible. You will get another “free meal” out of it, and simultaneously curb your calorie intake.

Watch your body and maintain your fitness level now, and you will have no need for costly or dangerous medications for serious health conditions in the future.

Exercise is one of the things doctors counsel you on when you go for your pregnancy office visit. The problem is that pregnancy can make sticking to an exercise program so much harder. Changing energy levels and raging hormones are just a few of the obstacles that you face when exercising while pregnant. It is essential that you consult your doctor at every stage of the pregnancy to determine the limits of what you can and can’t do at certain stages.

During the first trimester, exercise is still relatively normal. Your body hasn’t changed shape yet and the fetus is still very small. It can be relatively easy to pick up where you left off before you found out you were pregnant. You do have to be careful to stay hydrated even during this stage.

The second trimester, the pregnancy week by week can easily change. The baby lump starts showing and more stress is placed on your body from just the pregnancy alone. The doctor might advise you to slow things down a little at this point. This is simply to reduce the stresses placed on joints. It is important to listen to your body’s limitations and stop when something feels wrong.

The third trimester is no doubt the roughest on the body joints. Your are seriously off-centered. It is still important to maintain your exercise routine even if it has to be modified a little. In addition, exercise can stimulate the birth near your due date.

Healthy living is a vital part of you and your future baby’s health. As your pregnancy changes your body, your fitness routine should change with it.

The excuses for not attending a gym are legion. Slightly less legion are those who join, attend for a few weeks and then drop out. Common complaints are “it’s too hard!” or “I don’t have the time to go!” A famous athletic shoe manufacturer has a saying: Just do it. And they are right. Do not even think about it, just do it. Certainly this is a difficult concept for many to grasp. Regular exercise feels like an optional activity to some. And it should not be, at all. Modern lives are extremely sedentary. The daily grind of life wears people out and leaves them feeling like they have nothing left in them. It takes a gargantuan effort for them to get themselves to the gym.

Here is the secret to working out: It does not have to be hard. At all. Your body will tell you when it is time to ramp the workout up. Stepping on to the treadmill for 20 minutes at a zero degree incline is plenty to start with. Or get on an elliptical and set it on to the least resistance. There is absolutely no need to go to extremes in the beginning and even down the road. The mere fact that you have gotten on to a cardio machine is a great start. It will not be long before you realize that your body is telling you that things have become a cake walk and you need to start adding in more.

How does one make the gym a part of one’s routine? Simple. Just go. Even if you are having a bad day and just want to stay at home, go. The endorphins that get kicked up from a session on a cardio machine or doing a few reps on a weight machine will clear away the blahs like no tomorrow. The benefits outweigh any excuses you can make to not go.

The way to achieve weight loss can come from many different ways. Hitting a treadmill, stair machine or an elliptical for at least a half hour a day, free lifting weights, using weight machines, even swimming is a valid method. With all of these choices at hand, how does an individual make the decision of what to do?

There is no one true path for successful weight loss. Strange, but true. Not everyone will see the same results using the same exercises. Our bodies react differently to different kinds of stressors. What this means is that the right combination of types need to be discovered. The one constant is that it should always be a combination of aerobic and weights.

Aerobic workout is necessary to achieve sustained stress on the heart. This kicks the metabolism into gear and gets the body ready for the next stage which is some form of weight or resistance training. Someone whose weight loss does not respond well to aerobic may want to switch up the machine used from day to day in order to keep the body from getting overused to it. Do at least twenty minutes even if it does not feel like it is effective. There are still benefits to be had.

For those who feel weights are the way to go for reshaping the body, keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat. It can feel like that you are going backwards instead of forwards. Stick with it no matter what. It is much more effective to have muscle instead of fat, as it will work at burning off calories even when sedentary.

Cholesterol is modern society’s major bugaboo. It is called the silent killer because it sneaks up and clogs arteries without the person knowing about it. What symptoms there are tend to be ignored as they do not stop or slow down a body until it is too late. This is why it is vital to start some form of exercise and stick with it long before symptoms start twinging.

The most basic positive result to exercise is that it lowers weight. Weighing less means that there is less LDL floating around in the bloodstream. This is somewhat obvious that being overweight puts a body at a higher risk, thus losing excess weight makes a difference. What was not known is the “how” mechanism, as in how exercise causes the body to lower LDL levels.

One such reaction is that exercise gets enzymes going and doing their job. They grab the excess LDL that is floating in the blood stream and on blood vessel walls, then deposit the cholesterol in the liver. From there the liver uses the excess as bile for digestion or excretes it through waste functions. All of this by working out for 30 minutes a day. Working out vigorously for 60 minutes a day will serve to lower the LDL even more.

If this has convinced you to get out and exercise, remember to start slowly. Build up the tolerance over time to ensure that muscles, joints and tendons have a chance to acclimate and avoid an injury. Always remember: 30 minutes a day makes the bad cholesterol go away.

The first thing to conquer when working out is the most basic one: Getting to the gym. Sounds kind of silly, doesn’t it? This certainly is not a secret. But it really is a secret because most people overlook this simple fact. So, what does getting to the gym entail? Distance. The farther you have to travel to get in a workout, the less likely you will go. It is a common excuse, and a pathetic one at that, but legitimate. The way to overcome this is to find a gym that has a satisfactory selection of machines and is closest to the home.

So now that you have figured out the gym that makes the most sense to you, what do you do when you get in the door? This is another secret that many over look. Start picking the brains of the staff. They have their jobs because of the knowledge they have learned. This makes them an excellent resource for even the most advanced weightlifter. Staff can start you out on the right machines and give you a basic routine to start with. For those who really want to get serious, it is time to consult a physical therapist. If there is one on staff, the better. They can walk you through exercises that provide you the most benefit to help you reach your goal, regardless if it is weight loss or muscle building.

The last secret is another seemingly obvious one. Do not over do it. So many people attack the machines as if it were the last great obstacle in their life. This is just plain dumb. Instead, use a simple rule of thumb: If it feels too easy, that is because it is. Add a little resistance in the form of weight or incline on the machine until there’s a strain. Success will be yours by following these tips.

Many people have an image in their mind that those who regularly work out must be overachievers, body builders, or obsessives. Looking from the outside in, they have this impression that they too must join in or be left behind forever. It gives a kind of intimidation, that they will never look as good as the overachievers, so why bother joining a gym in the first place?

It is amazing what we will tell ourselves in order to avoid getting into an exercise routine, isn’t it? The reality is, working out does not have to be an excessive feat. Someone who is just starting out should not feel pressured to do more than they can physically handle. It is an accident waiting to happen. A newbie should focus on themselves, and on themselves only. Ignore those who are obviously weight lifters or training for a triathlon. You, the beginner, are not aiming for any of these goals. Instead, you are there to simply get started. And do not psyche yourself into thinking that all of the pretty people are laughing at you in their head. Chances are they are probably thinking that is awesome that someone has felt the need to come and learn how to burn.

So, on your first foray into the gym, don’t go hole hog. Take it easy. Find the least resistance you can tolerate on a weight or cable machine. Who cares if it is only five pounds? It is a start. Eventually the muscles start telling you that it needs more, and you oblige. But in the beginning, take it easy and do it smart. If it hurts, stop the activity and try something else. Getting into shape is a slow journey, one that does not need to be rushed.

Modern lives and diets have turned our bodies into ticking time bombs. High cholesterol and diabetes are two problems that more and more adults are facing, all because of our tendency to be sedentary and eat poorly. Certainly nutrition plays a large role in the care of our bodies, but we can not have complete wellness if we do not add exercise into the mix. There is no need to roll your eyes at the last statement. The truth is, Americans eat a lot of garbage on a daily basis whether they realize it or not. Add into that our supposed lack of time to prepare proper meals and we wind up eating more processed food than is good for us.

The key is to change habits before they become a problem. Many people get to their late 40′s and early 50′s and think that they are doing fine because they have not had a cardiac event or diabetes. Both will sneak up on a body without the owner realizing it. All of a sudden, an individual finds themselves having to repair the damage from their habits. This means radical lifestyle changes that make no one happy.

Get into the gym long before these problems have a chance to become major ones. Exercise will not necessarily stop a clock and instantly return someone to a picture of glowing health overnight. However, the simple act of stressing the heart even mildly will strengthen the muscle for the better. For those who have concerns about their LDL levels, they are in luck. Regular and moderate exercise provide results by stopping the levels from rising. Vigorous exercise will not only stop the levels, it will lower it even more.

The simple fact is, exercise is beneficial to the body. We thrive on having our bodies stressed for the endorphin release. But it is not an easy road to travel as it is simpler to give into a day of feeling blah instead. Working on changing the mindset is the best thing you can do for yourself.

Stretching before, during and after exercise can actually improve your workouts. Flexibility helps you prevent injuries, like sprains and strains, and it improves your overall fitness as well. Studies have shown that stretching between weight-bearing exercises can actually improve your strength more than lifting weights alone.

Before exercise, stretch gently. Don’t bounce, just stretch gently. After your muscles are warmed up from exercise you can really begin to improve flexibility. You can stretch further without injuring yourself. You don’t have to wait until your workout is over – stop periodically to stretch your major muscles during exercise.

After the workout is over, stretching is a good way to cool down and tone. Keeping limber can help you avoid soreness, work soreness out and allow you to do more exercise without injuring yourself.

Stretching even on the days you don’t work out can improve your overall fitness, help you retain muscle tone and be in better shape when you return to your exercise routine.

Be sure to stretch all your body’s muscles- arms, back, sides, tummy and legs. Even light exercise – such as a leisurely walk – can be enhanced by stretching. Most injuries during exercise can be prevented by good flexibility and stretching the muscles before, during and after exercise.

Any time you sit for long periods of time, taking stretch breaks can improve your circulation. It is good for the mind as well as the body. When blood is circulating from light exercise, it sharpens the mind, improves your mood and prevents lots of aches and pains. Next time you get a headache, back ache or leg ache try a few minutes of stretching. You may find you no longer need that pain medicine.

Getting the most out of your daily calories means you need to learn some basic nutrition. Most people on a diet can quote the calories per serving of every food in the pantry, but knowing the nutritional values is also important for a healthy, well-balanced diet.

While lettuce is low in calories, it is also low in most other nutrients, too. Spinach is higher in nutrients and can be substituted for lettuce in most uses.

Peanut butter is high in protein, but eggs are lower in fat and overall calories. Boiled eggs are only 70 calories each, and aren’t cooked in oil or butter. Canned fish, such as tuna and salmon, are also good sources of protein. When packaged in water they also have Omega 3 acids that are recommended for heart health.

Potatoes are high in potassium, but bananas are a better choice because we don’t top them with fatty extras.

Most vegetables can be steamed instead of fried with great results. Adding fresh onion or garlic can boost flavor without adding fat.

If you can’t keep fresh fruits and vegetables easily, frozen is usually the next best. If you buy cans, especially fruit, read the label carefully. Many are packed in some sweet juice. Any ingredient that ends in “ose” (like fructose or sucrose) is probably some form of sugar.

Choosing light gives you room in your diet to eat your fill while giving your body the nutrition it needs. For example, you can eat over three boiled eggs for fewer calories than is in only two tablespoons of peanut butter.

Walking may be the perfect exercise. It can be done at almost any fitness level, almost any time, almost anywhere. Most post-injury and post-accident physical therapy includes some walking. It is good for your heart, burns calories and has mental and even emotional benefits.

Weightlifting builds muscle, but walking is a cardiovascular exercise, which means the heart muscle is the main benefactor. Cardiovascular exercise also burns fat better than weightlifting exercises. It is associated with fewer injuries than many other types of exercise.

Doctors recommend walking for lower back pain more than any other treatment. It helps strengthen the muscles in the back preventing further injury.

Walking is also associated with a feeling of well-being in most people. It helps relieve stress, and many people report that taking a walk helps them solve problems and have a better attitude at home and work.

A walk also increases circulation in the brain. This helps memory and concentration. If you have trouble focusing after a long period of sitting, a brief walk will help perk you up and finish the job.

For many people, walking makes them feel less self-conscious than going to a gym. It can be enjoyed alone or with a companion, and even children can join.

If you are really out of shape, you can start slow and gradually build your fitness level. Add a few minutes each day or a few minutes a week. What is important is getting what exercise you can and building on it gradually.

A few stretches before and after your walk can prevent sore muscles. If you need a break during your walk, stopping a couple of minutes to stretch keeps your muscles warm and loosens your back.

Obesity in America’s kids is rising, sadly. It has been noted in the health industry that over 9 million kids between the ages of 6 and 19 are overweight. We have been warned and encouraged to change, but the numbers are not showing any change for the better.

Even Michelle Obama has jumped on board with her anti-obesity campaign, “Let’s Move”. She even started a garden on the White House lawn and brought in local children to help. All to encourage eating fresh fruits and vegetables. She even gave cooking classes for those kids in the White House kitchen to teach those kids how to use them. An awesome endeavor.

Did you know that one study shows that over 7 million American kids have high cholesterol? Did you know that Type 2 diabetes continues to rise among children. Sleep Apnea, strokes, cancers, even coronary artery disease have been showing up in America’s children. These are suppose to be diseases for old people.

Where have we gone wrong? Many school cafeterias have eliminated the soda, junk food and candy, bringing in healthier foods. Some schools have even banned bringing these items in from home. This is all a step in the right direction, but parents you need to jump on board and help your child to work toward better health.

Lifestyle change is a good place to start. Many of our children get very little exercise. Encourage this, even better, exercise with them. Take a walk together or go swimming at the town pool.

Eating habits need to change. Most kids do not eat nearly enough fruits and vegetables. Teach your child healthy eating habits. Buy fresh foods, not packaged foods.

Portion size does matter. In America we have seemed to super-sized everything. Do a little research and find out what the portion size is for your child.

We need to stop this epidemic of obesity in our children, It needs to start in each of our homes. As parents we need to do our part. Step up and be part of the solution. Help reclaim your child’s health.

Soda has become a staple of most American homes these days. In fact, most people consume one or more cans a day. Even in children consumption has doubled over the years. It is not unusual to see toddlers drinking soda from a sipper cup.

Most parents would not think of giving their child a bowl of sugar to eat, but that is exactly what a 20 oz bottle of soda entails. There are seventeen teaspoons of sugar in one bottle, the equivalent of a bowl full of sugar. That would be 250 empty calories. All that sugar has added to America’s problem with obesity.

Soda drinkers may be spending more time with their dentist too. Not only for cavities from all that sugar either. Acids from soda actually eat through the enamel on the teeth. This could lead to the teeth becoming overly sensitive. This also could lead to weakening of the teeth and breakage later in life.

Diet soda has been in the news lately. Studies are showing that diet soda could lead to heart attacks and strokes. For many years there has been concerns voiced over the artificial sweeteners and the effect it has on the body. Some studies even claiming that these sweeteners could cause cancer.

The Phosphoric acid in soda weakens the bones. It also gets in the way of the body’s ability to absorb calcium which could be hazardous to a child’s developing bones.

Caffeinated sodas are another problem all together. Caffeine is known to increase heart rate, cause sleeplessness, headaches, and raise blood pressure among many other things. All things most of us are trying to by pass, especially with our children. The average soda contains 50 mg of caffeine, many people drink multiple cans of caffeinated soda a day.

Hopefully you are seeing soda is not your best choice for a healthy beverage, diet or not. Milk and 100% juice would be a better choice at least there is something healthy in them. Then again, we do have good old water, probably the best choice.

Have you ever thought about eating foods that targeted certain illness? Using food to heal or as medicine? Fresh unprocessed foods hold many health boosting items that can help you achieve good health. Available in your grocery store, no doctor’s note needed.

Onion, that vegetable that you either love or hate is great for you cooked or uncooked. Onions are great for heart health. They help lower cholesterol and also lower blood pressure. They also have anti-cancer attributes.

Garlic; a cousin to the onion; is a blood thinner when eaten raw, the affect is similar to taking an aspirin. Garlic helps regulate blood sugar. A natural decongestant, it also kills bacteria. Garlic is also a cancer fighter.

Red chili pepper has six different pain relieving and anti-inflammatory compounds. These are great for fighting arthritis. Chili peppers also are great for fighting heart disease. If you haven’t tried it, the next time you are experiencing sinus pain, eat something with chili pepper in it, a natural sinus cleaner too.

Nuts help lower your LDL (bad Cholesterol) and help fight heart disease. They also regulate blood sugar.

Legumes (beans), have an antioxidant that protects the blood cell. They also regulate your blood sugar.

Carrots are great for you raw or cooked. They boost the immune system, fighting off bacteria as well as cancers.

Cinnamon regulates insulin. You can bake into a muffin and it still works.

Cruciferous vegetables are cancer fighters. They also ease symptoms of asthma and arthritis.

You may wonder why, if all these foods are packed with such super disease fighting components that we have such a big problem with disease. Most of us do not eat a balanced diet. We eat too many processed foods and not enough fresh food. We eat to much of one kind of food to the exclusion of others. BALANCE is what we need to find in our diet.

Eat for optimum health. Find the balance.

Obesity is on the rise. We see the expanding waistlines all around us. The super-size portions and sedentary lifestyles are leaving their mark on the American population. Many people are slowy eating themselves to death and it is costing the health care system billions.

Obesity is the number two cause of preventable deaths in America. Over 60 million adults are considered obese. The average American is basically 25 pounds over weight. All this extra weight is taking its toll on our health care system.

Obesity is causing a rise in health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery disease, strokes, cancer, even sleep apnea. It is not just affecting adults either, over 9 million children are experiencing many of these problems also.

Over $147 billion a year is spent on direct and indirect problems related to obesity. The average American spends $34oo a year on health costs, an obese person closer to $5000. The numbers are staggering. America spends $4.1 billion dollars on hypertension (high blood pressure) a year. We spend $8.8 billion on heart disease, also every year. The real mind blower is that we spend $98 billion a year on diabetes. Insane amounts of money are being spent treating diseases associated with obesity. When will we realize we as individuals must do something about this problem?

This epidemic of obesity must stop. It starts with each individual taking responsibility for themselves. Learn to eat fresh, healthy, balanced diets. Get out there and start exercising, even if it is just slowly. America can not handle this strain we have placed upon our health care system. The cost of obesity is more than our economy can bear. Each of us needs to do our part to make a change.

Eating raw has been around for quite a while. Surely you have heard of someone saying they were on a raw food diet. Maybe you even wondered what it was all about. A raw food diet is all about eating unprocessed and uncooked foods. These foods should be raw fruits and vegetable. Also include would be nuts, seeds, beans and grains among other things, all uncooked.

Why, you may ask, would I only want to eat only raw foods? Most of our diets are to high in fats, sodium and sugars among many other things. Eating a raw food diet is very healthy and can be very delicious. Eating raw foods allows your body to absorb all the nutrients a food has to give. Cooking often destroys many of the actual vitamins, minerals and enzymes our body so badly needs.

Followers of the raw food diet have found many health benefits including:

*weight loss

*more energy

*better digestion

*glowing and cleaner skin

There is much documentation of health changes in those who have followed a raw food diet. It has shown to reduce heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, digestive problems, even affecting cancer.

This diet is low in fat, sugar and sodium, which are a problem in our Western diet. Where we eat pre-packaged, pre-cooked, convenience food. The raw food diet in comparison is high in potassium, fiber, phytochemicals, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, all which are important for a healthy body.

The thought of leaving all cooked foods behind may feel daunting, but there are many sites that are very helpful in getting you started in the right direction. Consider starting small if you feel this would be to hard to make a total change. Grab something fresh today, instead of those pre-packaged items, give your body something nutritional and healthy. Look into eating raw.

Bodybuilding is a great way to stay healthy, increase muscle in your body, and accomplish a number of strength-related goals that you have in mind. If you have been wanting to get started in bodybuilding, you should consider some elements in order to get started. As bodybuilding can be physically demanding, you have to make sure you take the right steps to get started.

Healthy eating habits are extremely important. Bodybuilders who ignore the high importance in this area do not produce the gains that are possible. Some even harm their health. Do some research in terms of the correct diet for your needs. You should also consult with a doctor to be aware of any dangers particular to your health, and to clear supplements and vitamins if you plan on using them.

Once you start working out, you should stick to a specified schedule. You are probably aware of the many different techniques in terms of reps and sets. Stick with one and adjust later, as you can always change your schedule after a couple of months or so. Another important bodybuilding tip is making sure your routine hits the major muscles. It is true that many are worried about getting large biceps or other less important aspects. Develop your trunk area, back, and leg muscles, and chest to be well-rounded.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions along the way. This is especially important when it is closely linked to your health, such as a dieting question or change, or proper weightlifting techniques. Asking these questions can prevent serious injury. Also take advantage of bodybuilding.com coupons to get started.

Take things slowly and get into a routine. Getting involved in bodybuilding is a long-term endeavor, and you don’t want to get burned out by over-training or dedicating too much time to it. In time you will realize your strength and health-related goals and be on your way to becoming a bodybuilder for life.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and woman in the United States. Across the board we see advertising for medicine and drugs to combat heart health problems everywhere. We’ve been advised to eat better, but how many of us really do? What is a heart healthy diet anyway?

Dietitians advise eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables, low in saturated fats and sugars. A little difficult in America’s society of pre-packaged, microwaveable, fast-foods. Most of these packaged foods are full of fats, sugars and sodium, all counter-active to a healthy heart. So how do we go about eating healthier to encourage heart health? Instead of reaching for the packages, go for a few of these healthier choices:

*APPLES-high in fiber and pectin which lowers cholesterol,a very healthy choice.

*ALMONDS-high in healthy oils and vitamin E which also helps to keep the cholesterol in check.

*SALMON-high in Omega-3 fatty acids that protect your heart from blood clots and inflammation.

*TOMATOES-high in vitamins and lycopene know to cut the risk of heart disease.

*OATS AND WHOLE GRAINS-both high in fiber and known for cutting cholesterol.

*OLIVE OIL-known to lower the LDL (bad cholesterol).

By eating most foods in their most basic forms we are able to absorb and utilize the nutrition contained within them. So, instead of reaching for a pre-packaged cookie or energy bar, grab an apple. Need something crunchy? Grab some almonds. A delicious salmon dinner with a tomato salad drizzled with olive oil on the side would be great for your heart.

Make the choice to eat in a way that will encourage heart health. Reach for the fresh foods, forget the packaged. Only you can change your eating habits so that you are eating for a healthy heart.

Do you find yourself in a situation where you realize that you may need the help from a professional drug and alcohol treatment program? Do you realize that your drinking or drug use is negatively affecting not only you physically and emotionally, but your friends and family as well?

You realize that it’s probably time to check yourself into a treatment facility to help you overcome your addiction. However, this task seems daunting, but it is perhaps one of the most important and beneficial decisions you will make in your life.

There are a few steps you can take to make the transition to, as well as after treatment, as smooth as possible.

Make sure you get your life in as much order as possible. This can include making sure your family is taken care of, including pets. While care for the family is assumed, you may need to make arrangements for your furry friends.

Make sure that you have a responsible individual who will make sure that your monthly bills are being paid. You should also notify your work that you will be taking a medical leave. Do not worry about being fired, as there are laws that protect people receiving treatment.

Choosing the best drug and alcohol treatment centers for your individual needs is another step you’ll need to take. You need to do some research — and don’t be afraid to ask your friends and family for assistance — as to the best treatment program for you. Do you want a 12-step type program or perhaps, you want a more hands-on, one-on-one approach? You may even need to consider one that uses medication as part of the therapy.

No matter what type of program you choose, you’ve made the first important step: recognizing that you need help. You will soon find yourself on the road to recovery and health.
